About Us

Vision

The High School Moot Court Association was created to offer high-level Moot Court competition to students who don't have the ability to travel regularly. We offer four online qualifying tournaments in the spring and an in-person National Championship in May.

HSMCA aims to train high school students in constitutional law and oral advocacy. Students gain competence in the legal profession, particularly in the areas of reading comprehension, public speaking, and knowledge of the American judiciary. Our students go on to study law, politics, international relations, and more.

Five reasons to compete with HSMCA

Why HSMCA?

  1. Caliber of Judges. One of HSMCA’s main distinctives is that we invest heavily into recruiting and retaining experienced judges. 85.8% of our judges last year were either lawyers, law students, or current/past competitors.
  2. Convenient Scheduling. Qualifiers are online, which means you can compete from the comfort of your own home without the expensive of extensive travel. Our two-day tournaments also begin at 2 p.m. CT, rather than being an all-day commitment. The slimmer schedule gives you your mornings back to do dual-credit classes, regular school activities, or work.
  3. Coaching Accessibility. We have high expectations for our students. But we also provide the resources to get there: two summer camps, clubs in the fall and the spring, and private coaching starting at $15 an hour. Our coaches have coached over 1,100 private sessions.
  4. Competitive Opportunities. Each team has up to four opportunities to qualify for the National Championship. And competition is rigorous: 53% of our students last year came in with a year or more of Moot Court experience—and many of the “new” competitors already had extensive debate experience. Just watch a finals round on YouTube (here) and see the caliber of competition in HSMCA.
  5. Cash Prizes. We give out cash prizes to the top three teams at each qualifier and Nationals. Last year, HSMCA gave out $2,800 in cash prizes—and the number continues to grow each year.
